"Lucy — On Wednesday, the Trump administration announced that they might start allowing the import of hunting trophies from Zimbabwe and Zambia.
Trophy hunting is the hunting of wild animals for fun. The trophy is the animal or part of the animal kept, and usually displayed to show off the success of the hunt.
Kathleen Martin started a petition to urge the U.S. Government not to lift the ban of African elephant trophies. Almost half a million signed her petition, and now, thanks to the public reaction, the policy is temporarily on hold for “review”.
African elephants are listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act. The lift of a trophy ban is only allowable if hunting would benefit the survival of the species. In Zimbabwe they recently lifted the ban and have seen a six percent decline in the country’s elephant population alone.
Kathleen believes that President Trump lifting this ban could have global consequences, and enough pressure from the international community could change his mind.

It is extremely unethical that this action is even being considered, so many countries and communities have protested and fought to stop trophy hunting and elephant threats. Its appalling that a country with such an impact in these cases would abolish all of these efforts and possibly allow the lift of the ban. Especially when many people within the country are entirely against lifting the ban, Trump has previously displayed his backwards thinking and ancient thoughts. This is one of them, the days of being allowed to kill Elephants and other species and getting a positive response have gone and the modern world recognises how much of a hideous action this is with terrifying consequences to the species and their future. Trump needs to modernise his views and actions if not he is going to realise there is global consequences of being the cruel person he is as he will not be welcome in even more countries that he wants a working relationship with. Countries will be outraged by any visit and respond in the way the United Kingdom did which ceased his visit entirely, this was way before many of his backwards proposals had risen. He will also become even more unwelcome as the president of his country if he continues with horrific actions such as this one.
