Clean air target 'could be met more quickly' By Roger Harrabin BBC environment analyst, 27 November 2017 .

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-42141778 It is extremely refreshing to read an article which offers positive news on sustainability methods as it appears that most articles are heavily negative towards the topic. It is fair that the government uses a longer time expectancy for this to be completed as they would be slated if it was not completed within the given time frame, this extra time stated covers their back on any issues which may occur within the process. Although these reports make the governments target appear uneducated and brief as researchers have highlighted that this target could be met more quickly which is good news to any reader as we all have a responsibility on improving the impact we have created to our planet and its atmosphere and it is positive to hear that it is not as bad as they previously thought. There is still a huge amount of action needed to meet this target and improve the environment and the human race's health as air that is not...

Stella McCartney calls for overhaul of 'incredibly wasteful' fashion industry. Sandra Laville, Tuesday 28 November 2017 06.01 GMT

ht tps://www.theguardian.com/environment/2017/nov/28/stella-mccartney-calls-for-overhaul-of-incredibly-wasteful-fashion-industry This is very educational and eye opening for individuals who are unaware of the production scale and waste within the fashion industry. Its hard to believe that these figures are true as they are so extreme and baffling to read, these figures could make any reader feel guilty if they are considered as part of the throw away nature we have within this modern age. As an individual with this nature I definitely feel guilty and awful reading this, I am at fault as I have purchased clothes and worn them once before later on giving them to charity shops and feeling like the issue is sorted through this action. It is worrying to read that the greenhouse emissions from the fashion industry is larger than international flights as most people would assume that travel within this large scale would be the biggest issue, not clothes we wear everyday and don't thi...

African Elephants, Change.org email. 21/11/2017 9:53

Email:  "Lucy —  On Wednesday, the Trump administration announced that they might start allowing the import of hunting trophies from Zimbabwe and Zambia. Trophy hunting is the hunting of wild animals for fun. The trophy is the animal or part of the animal kept, and usually displayed to show off the success of the hunt. Kathleen Martin started a petition to urge the U.S. Government not to lift the ban of African elephant trophies.   Almost half a million signed her petition, and now, thanks to the public reaction, the policy is temporarily on hold for “review”. African elephants are listed as threatened  under the Endangered Species Act. The lift of a trophy ban is only allowable if hunting would benefit the survival of the species. In Zimbabwe they recently lifted the ban and have seen a six percent decline in the country’s elephant population alone.  Kathleen believes that President Trump lifting this ban could have global consequences, and enough pressu...

Daughters of brain-damaged woman win case for removal of feeding tube. Nigel Bunyan Monday 30 October 2017 19.22 GMT

https://www.theguardian.com/law/2017/oct/30/daughters-brain-damaged-woman-mrs-p-removal-feeding-tube-preston-salford This story will gain a very split opinion from readers as it features others making life decisions for someone who can no longer make their own. It appears that the daughters are respecting their mothers wishes of not allowing her to carry on in a way she would not like others to see, whereas her sisters are fighting against them to keep her alive in a minimal conscious state. This would be a huge decision for any daughter to make as it leaves them without a mother, the fact that these daughters would fight for this to happen shows how much they respect their mother and adamantly know what she would have wanted, in this case it makes the decision and the court appearance entirely understandable. A touching element of this story is that the woman's grandson stood up in court at only 12 years old to give evidence that his grandmother should be allowed to die whi...

DGA reports increase in ethnic, gender diversity among TV directors. By Elbert Wyche 14 November 2017

https://www.screendaily.com/news/dga-reports-increase-in-ethnic-gender-diversity-among-tv-directors/5124225.article It is very positive that ethnic and gender diversity is finally beginning to occur within the television production industry, especially within high job roles. All of the percentages are refreshing to view and the increase can be visually seen in comparison to prior years but the question which is always considered is how has it taken so long for this to happen? In our modern world these percentages should have appeared years ago and it is disappointing that is has taken until 2016 for them to reach this high. The television and film industry often release various statistics which makes them appear as modern industries but when compared to others in the arts they are extremely behind on ethnic and gender diversity which they need to accept and ensure they pioneer ways to change this negative element of the industry, making them truly modern in every aspect and not only ...

Our Planet Is Choking On Trash And We Are All To Blame. Caroline Power Photographer, Nicholas Bach A director of the Roatan Marine Park. 08/11/2017 19:45 GMT

http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/caroline-power/planet-choking-trash_b_18502224.html?utm_hp_ref=uk-sustainability It appears unbelievable that in 2050 the plastic pieces within the sea will outnumber fish. This is the terrifying future for our oceans, due to the human race and our unsustainable actions there seems to be no positive element in the future of our oceans or the species within it. It is clear that the entire human population on the planet is to blame for this forced negative impact on our natural areas and for that we should all feel guilty and at least attempt to make a change. The easiest way to make a change has always been to recycle, this article highlights how the impact is so damaging that recycling alone isn't enough to make a dramatic difference but refusing, reducing, reusing then recycling can. The fact that this process is now longer is likely to put people with busy lives off of the process and may urge them to not take part in it. The images within this ...

Swedish Film Institute to introduce sexual conduct education. By Tom Grater 15 November 2017

https://www.screendaily.com/news/swedish-film-institute-to-introduce-sexual-conduct-education-exclusive/5124221.article This introduction is clearly due to the individuals within the film industry who abuse their power being brought to light and plastered all over the media. There are two ways to approach this introduction, the first being that it is great that some countries are acknowledging the issues in the industry and ensuring there are actions taken towards it. It is surprising that this action is not coming from a more dominant country within the industry but instead one with a smaller impact, this movement from Sweden has made the UK consider a similar idea which they may not have considered without this prompt. It is brave of Sweden to introduce this education due to their smaller impact in the industry and their high level of reports of sexual misconduct which brands them negatively. It is also very smart that companies would need to go through the process to gain funding ...

Meet The Scientists Who Have Made Coffee Cups Recyclable. by Charley Ross 29/09/2017 03:15pm

http://sourced.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2017/09/29/meet-the-scientists-who-have-made-coffee-cups-recyclable/ It is incredible to see scientists involved in something that seems like a small issue in everyday life, but when looked at in more depth it becomes a huge issue as 2.5 billion coffee cups are used in the UK each year. The scientists acknowledge that there is a need for change in our disposable, throw away attitudes and feel that " We believe that we can use things and throw them away, and that mentality has to stop". They  have made a positive contribution to improve this attitude and problem in the modern day world by creating a fully recyclable coffee cup, this is great news for our environment.  This article details how we do not use our bins correctly which is entirely true, a lot of waste bins are filled with recyclable products. These scientists have acknowledged this and offered a solution that alongside using there fully recyclable cups, coffee shops could...

‘Stranger Things’ creators criticised after forcing teen actors to perform unscripted kiss. Nick Reilly Nov 7, 2017

http://www.nme.com/news/music/stranger-things-creators-criticised-for-unscripted-kiss-2157077 This article was discovered after reading the article regarding a young actor in this show receiving negative criticism which is very concerning, this article creates even more concern over the show and its negative impacts to the young cast members. When reading this article it seemed unrealistic that this would be allowed to happen, making the embedded video of an interview seem more reliable. Soon into watching the video which was uncomfortable to view it was clear that the text which appeared unrealistic was entirely true, the directors blamed the young actress for the kiss she was clearly not comfortable with and described how he said it was in the script to her as a joke and due to her stressed reaction he felt they should carry it out. This is completely wrong in every sense of the word, if she was stressed due to this and it was never written in the script it should not have been car...

Game of Thrones' Sophie Turner Defends Stranger Things Kids Following Fan Criticism By Megan McCluskey November 6, 2017

http://time.com/5012582/game-of-thrones-sophie-turner-defends-stranger-things-kids/ It is extremely unethical that adults would give a 14 year old criticism for not acknowledging them, in a normal circumstance this would be classed as harassment but as the 14 year old is an actor it is allowed and dismissed as the norm. It is very sad that a teenager cannot walk a small distance without being expected to stop to speak to fans, being an actor is a job role and in this case when the actor is playing a character in a hit television series people forget that the individual has a personal life outside of their role and character. Sophie Turner, who began filming Game of Thrones when she was only 15 and was suddenly launched into fame when the series became popular worldwide can relate to this criticism. She has used her public platform to defend the young actor and express her concern over allowing the young actors to "grow without feeling like they owe anyone anything for living the...

Study: Climate Change Is Damaging the Health of Millions of People - Patricia Espinosa and Richard Horton

http://time.com/4999425/climate-change-health-2/ This article stands out most amongst others due to the title being very concerning, most of the billions of individuals on this planet are aware of climate change and the impacts it has on the environment and our planet but this is new information that millions of people's health is being damaged due to the effects of it. We see news stories on the saddening large amounts of people who suffer and die due to natural disasters which we are aware is the result of climate change. The further effects of climate change on the everyday life of the general public has never been made entirely clear until  20,000 delegates from around the world met in Germany. The information discussed is shocking and will hopefully force people to wake up and make changes to their life to help climate change before it forces negative changes upon theirs.
