This story will gain a very split opinion from readers as it features others making life decisions for someone who can no longer make their own. It appears that the daughters are respecting their mothers wishes of not allowing her to carry on in a way she would not like others to see, whereas her sisters are fighting against them to keep her alive in a minimal conscious state. This would be a huge decision for any daughter to make as it leaves them without a mother, the fact that these daughters would fight for this to happen shows how much they respect their mother and adamantly know what she would have wanted, in this case it makes the decision and the court appearance entirely understandable. A touching element of this story is that the woman's grandson stood up in court at only 12 years old to give evidence that his grandmother should be allowed to die which highlights the difference in her state now to her previous healthy state as someone of such a young age could recognise this. No one wants to loose a family member at any age or time in life but in some situations, no matter how much we love that individual it is clear that they are better off and will be in peace if they passed on. This makes the possibility of going to court to gain this action very important and we are lucky that this is possible within our society.

Discussing this article with anonymous, 2017:

"The outcome of this is correct in my opinion as the daughters were speaking for their mother and not for themselves like the sister was. If that is what the mother wanted then that should be what happens."
